Black

...the colour - my favourite
...the feeling - my comfort
...the song - my soul
(and now) ...the movie - my faith (restored in Indian cinema - the last such being Maqbool - but even that pales in comparison somehow, ie)

I think the biggest compliment I can (in my humblest of ways) pay it is that I wasn't watching amitabh bachchan or rani mukherjee or that kid - I was watching the characters they were - and this is considerable considering the stature and all-encompassing 'star' hood of the two....

another point of faith: despite the inherently futile and desperate sadness of the theme, its got to count as one of the happiest movies I have watched.

Bravo! and here's to brave new cinema...even if its from Sanjay Leela Bhansali...

Some say Black is plaigarised! (1962 Oscar nomination: The Miracle Worker?)

HAAAAAAAAAA!

The Miracle Worker is one of my favourite films and yes, the Black trailers I've seen indicate a similarity, not just in theme (which is obvious because of the Helen Keller-Anne Sullivan connection) but in visual treatment. Except for the very significant fact that Miracle Worker was a black-and-white film; and the cinematography is so distinct I can't imagine it being in colour.

I'm sure The Miracle Worker is an equally/more worthy film, 'inspired' this one (and many others maybe) - it really does not make any difference about whether points of similarity exist between these films...my Black experience still remains what it was...

ditto rhymebawd. i want double my money back, i bought the damned tickets in (NOT trying to be funny here) black!

Rani was okay, Mr. Bachchan was LOUD and the actors who play ranis parents ought to be shot...many times over.

Bhansali got swept away with creating drama and forgot that what he started out doing, was telling a story.

i haven't seen maqbool yet, but khamoshi was MUCH better than this.

Oh dearie me!

din't realize so much existential angst could be generated by so few about so little!

Illusions: Hope for your sake that the next work you appreciate is at LEAST original!

Jabberwock: No defence! I PRAW-miss! ...and this just for you - :)

Rhymebawd: I dare at-par-ise Maqbool and Black, simply purely on the basis of impact...on me.
...and you can start breathing right about now.

Tom Pinkerton/Anonymous: I am genuinely sorry for the fact that you had to shell out double the money to watch actors you want to shoot...really! I'd hate the feeling too!

straight curves:

i don't, on a regular basis, *want* to shoot actors (you make it sound like a hobby!) but these two (rani mukherjees parents ) were god-awful.

Rani in fact, I rather like and Mr. Bachchan has been worshipped in my household since I was a child (a very long time ago).

Also, "existential angst"? Please explain that...no, really. I truly haven't been able to figure out what that means, and then of course, its reference to context here.

Bad actors can wait their turn. I first want to shoot anyone who uses the term "existential angst". With you there, tom pinkerton.

there, there, jabberwock...

dear ol' Tom was just asking ME to explain what I meant when...and now sit down and breathe while I say this ...I introduced the term 'existential angst'...

Uhh..Straight Curves. Clearly, you've once again managed not to understand what I was saying. But then we've discussed that before enough times so will hold my peace. And breathe easy.
